Ego Ella May: Underwater

To lure people in to anticipate her 2014 release titled Breathing Underwater, London based future soul artist Ego Ella May is giving fans her lead single "Underwater" as a token of her appreciation. Judging from the sounds of this track, which was produced by IAMNOBODI, and they way her vocals hug it comfortably, this is surely to be a great work to expand your collection. Streaming and downloads of the LP will be available February 5th.

Yasiin Bey x Marvin Gaye: Inner City Travelin' Man

Outkast: Prototype (starRo Bossa Edit)

Ok. Everybody sing along with me if you know this..."REUNITED and it feels so gooood." Yup! That's what is happening for Coachella 2014 as Outkast makes way to headline the stage for a massive reunion concert at the upcoming festival. To help celebrate the occasion, starRo remixed their "Prototype" tune from their fifth studio album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2003). Get this for free and give him a like on his Facebook page to say thanks. Enjoy!

The Digitarians: Meet Me In The Snow

While I was visiting Amp Fiddler's Bandcamp page, there's another interesting project called The Digitarians that's part of the discography and they have a futuristic sounding track titled "Meet Me In The Snow". I don't have any information on this project at this time, but as usual, i'll have more details as things develop. Enjoy!

Amp Fiddler: Basementality 2

After 12 years, Amp Fiddler drops the sequel Basementality 2 today via Bandcamp. My favorite already is his uptempo track "More Than", which has to be on the "save the best for last" mantra, having this as the final track on the album. For those who don't know who this guy is, this is THE MAN responsible for introducing J-Dilla to the MPC. Amp has also played with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, bringing his soulful, funky style of keys to the collective. The starting price is definitely a steal. Be sure to show love and cop this.

Friday Flashback: Freddie McGregor

The first post for Friday Flashback in 2014 comes from one of my favorite singers, Mr. Freddie McGregor, who hails from Clarendon, Jamaica. Starting his music career in the 1960's, McGregor has filled roles as singer-songwriter, musician and producer, having scored hits with "Bobby Babylon", "Big Ship", "I Was Born A Winner", "Push Come To Shove" and others. Throughout the course of his music career, McGregor has performed every stylistic progression in popular Jamaican music from Ska to Rocksteady, Reggae, Lovers Rock and Dancehall.

One tune that has resonated with me for many years, that I still keep in rotation is his single from 1991 titled "To Be Poor Is A Crime", which was released on his own Big Ship Records.
